Sanju Samson On How He Learnt From Rahul Dravid

Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson, through a chat with Gaurav Kapoor on Breakfast With Champions, that his learning comes from Rahul Dravid. Samson shared that whatever the veteran has told him so far, he has noted it all down in a notebook. Incidentally, the Rajasthan camp is an ideal place for a young cricketer to improve, according to Samson.

He has specifically talked about how he learned to be more disciplined from batting coach Rahul Dravid during this time.

“I would bat in the nets for two days and never have I been able to match the standards of those two days in my entire life,” Samson said. “I’d hit a ball and a voice would come from behind, ‘what a shot. Shot Sanju,” he recalled.

In 2016, former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid joined the Delhi Daredevils as a mentor. While he was meant to help players develop their skills, few knew that he was actually scouting for talented batsmen. Sanju added, “Along with me, Karun Nair, Shreyas Iyer, Mayank Agarwal, and Rishabh Pant were present.” At that time Rahul Dravid said to all of us that “You guys will play for the Indian team, which was special for every youngster.”

Sanju also opened up about the time when he was dropped from the Indian cricket team, and how it affected him. He said: “I was totally confused, I wondered whether I’d even make it to the state team again. Being dropped from the national team was a really big blow at the time.

Sanju also shares his thoughts about late Shane Warne. He goes on to describe the positive influence of Shane Warne, saying that a few hours spent with him would be enough to learn lessons that could last a lifetime.

Sanju Samson said that he has been working hard and improving as a cricketer. His effort was for the betterment of his game, and it’s clearly starting to pay off.

Sanju Samson has done well for Rajasthan Royals since taking over the captaincy. He is in decent touch this season, scoring 298 runs from 10 matches.
