Nick Allegretti, the left guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, suffered a torn UCL in his elbow during the second quarter of Super Bowl LVIII, as initially reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
This injury occurred while Allegretti was starting in place of Joe Thuney.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared the news on his official X account, commending Allegretti as a “beast” and highlighting his dedication by noting that despite the injury, Allegretti didn’t miss a single snap in the game.
After completing his rookie contract, Allegretti re-signed on a one-year deal with the Chiefs. His significant playing time came in Week 18, replacing the injured Joe Thuney, and he continued to start throughout the postseason, including the entire Super Bowl, despite the elbow injury.
Allegretti had the highest pass-blocking grade among Chiefs offensive linemen in the AFC Championship and performed well in the Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
As Allegretti is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, the timeline for his recovery from the UCL injury remains uncertain, with recovery periods ranging from weeks to months. The rehabilitation could extend between nine and 12 months if surgery is necessary.
Drafted by the Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Allegretti may conclude his tenure with the team after making 13 regular-season and five playoff starts, contributing to all three of Kansas City’s recent Super Bowl titles if the Super Bowl LVIII proves to be his final game with the Chiefs.
